Home is Best

Mr Parrot is not happy. He does not like his little old house.

He leaves his old house to look for a new one.

“This place looks nice,” says Mr Parrot. “I want to move in here.”

But somebody else lives there. Poor Parrot! He has to leave.

“This place looks good,” says Mr Parrot. “Let me move in here.”

But it is too wet and cold. Poor Parrot! He cannot live here.

“That place is all right,” says Mr Parrot. “I can live there.”

But it is too windy. Mr Parrot does not like it here.

“That place looks nice,” says Mr Parrot. “I want to live there.”

But it is too dangerous. Poor Parrot! He has to leave again.

“That place looks beautiful,” says Mr Parrot. “It can be my new house.”

But it is too noisy. Poor Parrot! He does not like the bell.

“I like that place,” says Mr Parrot. “I want to move in there.”

But it is too dirty. Poor Parrot! He gets dirty too.

“That place looks nice,” says Mr Parrot. “I want to live there.”

But it is too far. Mr Parrot cannot get there.

Mr Parrot is tired and hungry. Crash! He bumps into something.

It is his old house. Now it looks so warm and nice.

“East or West, home is best,” says Mr Parrot.

We All Love Ice Cream

It is dinner time. Fred’s family is at the table.

“Eat your broccoli, Fred,” says Mum. Fred looks down at his dish.

“I don’t like broccoli,” says Fred.

“What a pity!” Mum says. “If you eat your broccoli, you can have an ice cream.”

“I don’t like broccoli,” says Fred.

“If you eat your broccoli, you can have an ice cream and you can watch TV for an hour.”

“I DON’T LIKE BROCCOLI,” says Fred.

“If you eat your broccoli, you can have an ice cream, watch TV for an hour and go to bed late.”

“Mum, why don’t you eat your carrots?” asks Fred.

“But, I don’t like carrots,” says Mum.

“What a pity!” says Fred. “If you eat your carrots, I’ll do the dishes.”

“I don’t like carrots,” says Mum.

“If you eat your carrots, I’ll do the laundry and the dishes.”

“I DON’T LIKE CARROTS,” says Mum.

“If you eat your own carrots and broccoli, I’ll make a big bowl of ice cream for both of you. How about that?” asks Dad.

“We all love ice cream!”

The Leopard and the Monkey

It’s morning in the jungle. The animals are waking up.

“Where’s my breakfast?”

Can you see the leopard? He’s waking up, too. Oh no! The leopard is hungry.

The leopard wants his breakfast. His favourite (最喜欢的) breakfast is monkeys. The monkeys are in the trees. They are afraid (害怕的).

There’s well (水井) in the jungle. Look out (当心), leopard! Oh no! The leopard is in the well.

The monkeys aren’t afraid now.

“Come on! It’s OK now. The leopard is in the well.”

Three monkeys are next to the well. They can hear the leopard.

The old monkey is on the well. He can see the leopard. The leopard doesn’t like the well.

“Please help me. Don’t be afraid. I’m your friend.”

“You aren’t my friend. You want me for breakfast,” says the old monkey.

“Let’s go,” says the old monkey. “Goodbye, leopard.”

The monkeys go. But the baby monkey wants to help the leopard.

“I can help you. Leopard. But please don’t eat me.”

“Thank you! Don’t be afraid. I’m your friend.”

“Climb the rope, leopard.”

The baby monkey has got a rope (绳子). With the rope, the leopard can climb (爬) out of the well. The leopard is happy.

“Thank you, monkey. I like you.”

Now the leopard is out of the well and he’s very hungry. Run away, monkey!

“Oh no! You aren’t my friend.”

Look! It’s the tortoise. Can he help the monkey?

“What’s the problem (问题)?” says the tortoise. “I’m the leopard’s friend,” says the monkey. “First I help him with my rope. But now he wants me for breakfast!”

“Ha ha ha! You’re funny (有趣),” says the tortoise. “A baby monkey can’t pull (拉) a big leopard out of a well.”

“I can pull a leopard out of a well,” says the monkey. “I’m strong.”

“And I can climb a rope,” says the leopard. “I like climbing.”

“Ha ha ha!” says the tortoise. “You two are very funny.”

“Come on, leopard!” says the monkey. “Let’s show (给……看) the tortoise.”

Now the leopard is in the well again. And the monkey and the tortoise are happy.

And what about the leopard? He is in the well to this day (至今).So when you’re in the jungle and you see a well, be very careful (小心的)!
