October 25
Dear Mille,
Thank you for telling me about the Mid-Autumn Festival. We have some festivals in the USA, and I like Halloween best.
Halloween is on October 31. How do we celebrate it? Children have lots of fun on that day. We dress up and wear masks. Sometimes we paint our faces. We also make pumpkin lanterns. It is wonderful.
When the evening comes, we visit houses and play a game with the people inside. We knock on their doors and shout “trick or treat”. Usually they give us some candy as a treat. If they do not give us a treat, we play a trick on them.
We always have a party on the evening of October 31 and enjoy nice food and drinks. It is really a special day.
Lots of love,
Wendy

Dear Vincent,
I want to tell you about a holiday coming up in America that is called Halloween.
Halloween is every year on October 31st. Most young children dress up in many different costumes. There are usually so many different costumes, ghosts, pumpkins, super heroes, princesses, and my personal favorite dinosaurs. Dressed in the costumes, children go around to houses, knock on people's doors and wait to be given candy. This is called trick or treat. The one rule of trick or treat is that the porch light must always be lit before knocking on the door or ringing the doorbell and saying trick or treat. After this, the owner of the house will give the children candy.
On Halloween night, older children pass out candy to the younger ones that are trick or treating and watch scary movies with their friends. Growing up, I always enjoyed seeing all of the different costumes and eating lots of candy. Something else that all children do before Halloween is to carve pumpkins, bake the pumpkin seeds, and eat them. This is so that on Halloween night while trick or treating, children can see many different decorative pumpkin lanterns on people's porches.
Halloween is important because it's a chance for kids every year to express creativity and to be whatever they want, and nobody can make fun at it. Plus, you get candy and it's a holiday, and holidays are always good.
I really hope one day you can come to America for Halloween and see all the amazing decorations, dress up in a costume, and maybe even carve a pumpkin! Maybe in your next letter you can tell me about a holiday coming up in China.
Yours sincerely,
Monika
