Iceland is known as the “Land of Fire and Ice.” Recently, one of its volcanoes has erupted again. Bright orange lava flows down the mountain like a river of fire. The scene is both amazing and powerful.
This natural wonder has become a new hot spot for tourists and social media influencers. Every day, hundreds of people hike for hours to get a closer look. They take photos and videos to share online.
However, this adventure is not safe. The ground can be unstable and very hot. Toxic gases can fill the air suddenly. The local rescue team has been called out many times to help lost or injured tourists. “We are not trying to ruin the fun,” says a rescue worker, “but we want people to understand the real risks. Our job is dangerous enough without adding unnecessary problems.”
Besides safety, there are other concerns. The large number of visitors is damaging the delicate environment. Some leave trash behind. Also, all the travel to this remote area creates more carbon emissions.
So, here comes the big question: Should this kind of extreme tourism be encouraged, or should it be more strictly controlled?
