Safari Adventure
Chip and Wilf were tracking Dad. “This is a good game,” said Wilf.
“Put this in your hat,” said Chip. “Dad won’t see us. Then we can track him.”
Chip and Wilf hid in the trees. “Keep down,” said Chip. “Here comes Dad.”
Dad went past. He looked for the boys, but he couldn’t see them.
Floppy went sniff, sniff, sniff! “Go away, Floppy!” said Chip, but Floppy wouldn’t go.
Chip and Wilf went home. They looked for Biff but she was not there.
The key began to glow. It took Chip and Wilf into a magic adventure.
The magic took them to Africa. Some zebra were going to drink at a pool. Chip and Wilf looked around. “A herd of zebra!” said Wilf. “Don’t let them see us!”
Chip saw a lorry by a tree. Some men got out. They began to creep up to the zebra. “What do they want?” said Wilf.
“Oh no!” said Wilf. “They are going to catch a zebra.” “We must stop them,” said Chip. He had an idea. “Come on,” he said.
The boys ran to the lorry. Chip pressed the horn. “Beeeeeeeep!” it went. “Beeeeeeeep!” went the horn again. The zebra looked up.
The horn scared the zebra. They ran away. The men were scared, too. They ran back to the lorry. “Quick! Let’s go,” one called.
“Quick, Wilf,” said Chip. “Run!” They ran away. Chip and Wilf hid in a bush. They didn’t want the men to see them.
The men couldn’t start the lorry. Suddenly a jeep drove up. There were rangers in the jeep. The men jumped out of the lorry and ran away. The rangers chased after them.
A ranger shook Chip’s hand. “Thank you,” he said. “You saved a zebra.”
The magic key began to glow. It was time to go. It had been an exciting adventure.
“Why wouldn’t the lorry start?” asked Wilf. “Ha! I took the key!” said Chip.
The Earth Book
The Earth is a beautiful place.
There are forests and rivers, mountains and fields. Some places are very hot, and some places are very cold.
There are many different plants. Some are large. Some are small. All plants need light and water. There are different animals on Earth too. Some live on the land. Some fly in the sky. Some live under the water.
There are also many people like you and me on Earth. The Earth provides us with air, water and food. It is our home.
Today, there is a lot of pollution. We burn things to make energy. This pollutes the air. We put our rubbish into the sea and under the ground. This pollutes the Earth and kills animals and plants.
We must stop doing these things. It is important to protect the Earth.
Peter’s chair
Peter stretched as high as he could. There! His tall building was finished.
CRASH! Down it came.
“Shhhh!” called his mother.
“You’ll have to play more quietly. Remember, we have a new baby in the house.”
Peter looked into his sister Susie’s room. His mother was fussing around the cradle.
“That’s my cradle,” he thought, “and they painted it pink!”
“Hi, Peter,” said his father.
“Would you like to help paint sister’s high chair?”
“It’s my high chair.” whispered Peter.
He saw his crib and muttered, “My crib. It’s painted pink too.”
Not far away stood his old chair.
“They didn’t paint that yet!” Peter shouted.
He picked it up and ran to his room.
“Let’s run away, Willie,” he said.
Peter filled a shopping bag with cookies and dog biscuits.
“We’ll take my blue chair, my toy crocodile, and the picture of me when I was a baby.”
Willie got his bone.
They went outside and stood in front of his house.
“This is a good place,” said Peter.
He arranged his things very nicely and decided to sit in his chair for a while.
But he couldn’t fit in the chair. He was too big!
His mother came to the window and called, “Won’t you come back to us, Peter dear? We have something very special for lunch.”
Peter and Willie made believe they didn’t hear.
But Peter got an idea.
Soon his mother saw signs that Peter was home.
“That rascal is hiding behind the curtain,” she said happily.
She moved the curtain away.
But he wasn’t there!
“Here I am,” shouted Peter.
Peter sat in a grown-up chair.
His father sat next to him.
“Daddy,” said Peter, “let’s paint the little chair pink for Susie.”
And they did.
Keep Your Dream
Bill was a teacher in the US. One day, he asked his students to write about their dream jobs.
His student Robert wrote seven pages about his dream job. He said, one day he would have a ranch. And he even drew a map for the ranch. On the map, there was the stable, runway, and many buildings.
The next day he gave his homework to the teacher excitedly. But when he got his homework back, he saw a large red “F” and a sentence “See me after class”. Robert went to see Bill after class. “Why did I only get F?” he asked.
The teacher looked at the boy and said “Robert, you did your homework very carefully, but your dream is too far away. Your father is just a horse trainer. Your family moved a lot and don’t have the money. But a ranch needs a lot of money. Can you have so much money?" The teacher also said, if Robert could do the homework again and wrote about a realistic dream, he could give him a new score.
Robert took back his homework and went to ask his father. His father said, “My son, you should make your own decision. But you have to be careful, because it is very important to you!”
Robert kept his dream about the ranch. He said, “You can keep the F and I’ll keep my dream.”
Robert kept his homework and worked hard for his dream. Many years later Robert finally made his dream come true.
When Bill and his 30 students visited Robert’s ranch, he was very sorry. “When I was your teacher, I was like a dream stealer. In those years, I stole a lot of children’s dreams. But you never give up your own dream!”
Keep your dream and work hard for it. You can make it come true.
Smart Winter Animals
Winter comes. It’s cold! We wear coats and hats. We stay in warm houses. We feel warm. How do animals spend the winter?
Wild geese fly south for winter. They fly a long way. They fly in groups. Some butterflies fly to warm places for winter, too.
Some animals don’t fly away. They are active in winter. Red foxes grow thick fur for winter. You can find them in forests. Snowshoe rabbits live in North America. They are brown in summer. They grow new white fur in winter. It keeps them warm and safe in snow.
Black bears make warm beds to sleep in. They use leaves and grass. Some bears can stay asleep for seven months.
Squirrels store food in fall. They store nuts and mushrooms. They hide food in their cheeks. They hide food in holes in trees too.
